What happened to Varun Chakravarthy during the T20 World Cup? Is He Going To Play In The Multi-Team Event?

Varun Chakravarthy has been in excellent form for the IPL 2021 finalist Kolkata Knight Riders, assisting the club in reaching the finals. Varun Chakravarthy’s IPL 2021 campaign thus far has seen the mystery spinner notch up 18 wickets in 16 matches.

His efforts have been recognized by selectors, who have included him to the India T20 World Cup squad for the multi-team event in the UAE and Oman. With only a few days to go till the T20 World Cup, Team India management is concerned about Varun Chakravarthy’s fitness after he was spotted hobbling off the field during the KKR versus DC Qualifier 2 match.

After bowling four overs for just 26 runs and taking two wickets of Delhi openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, the 30-year-old was spotted hobbling off the field with the Kolkata Knight Riders’ physio. Varun Chakravarthy’s injury is yet to be updated. The 30-year-old had already failed the fitness test, which caused him to miss last year’s T20I series against Australia, delaying his debut in the blue jersey. He was also selected for the five-match T20I series against England, however, he was unable to participate owing to knee concerns and insufficient fitness. If Chakravarthy is not fit enough for the Indian team’s medical staff to handle his ailments, the BCCI has till October 15 to make changes to the roster.

On Wednesday BCCI Honourary Secretary Jay Shah, confirmed that Shardul Thakur will take Axar Patel’s place in the upcoming T20 World Cup. with the left-arm spinner now being put on the list of standby players. Shardul Thakur is likely included in Team India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to adopt the duties of an all-rounder. With Hardik Pandya not having bowled due to fitness concerns, Thakur could provide more depth in the bowling attack. Moreover, he could also chip a few runs with the bat down the order. Meanwhile, Pandya has not bowled regularly since his back surgery in 2019.

Shardul Thakur will replace Axar Patel in the next T20 World Cup, according to BCCI Honourary Secretary Jay Shah. The left-handed spinner has been added to the list of standby players. Shardul Thakur is expected to be named in Team India’s T20 World Cup team, where he would play as an all-rounder. Thakur may give additional depth in the bowling attack with Hardik Pandya, not bowling owing to fitness concerns. Furthermore, he has the ability to chip in a couple runs at the bottom of the order with the bat. Meanwhile, after his back surgery in 2019, Pandya has not bowled on a regular basis.
