VVS Laxman Explains Venkatesh Iyer’s Interesting ‘Utility’ Role in Team India

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman believes Venkatesh Iyer, who has got his first Indian national cricket team call-up, would be an ideal backup for Hardik Pandya. Laxman mentioned that Venkatesh Iyer can contribute with both the ball and the bat.

The Indian great also stated that Venkatesh Iyer should bat lower in the order, given that India currently has four openers in KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

VVS Laxman stated on Star Sports, “You want him to bat at No. 5 or No. 6, as well as bowl for a couple of overs or more, to get him acclimated to that position. He might be Hardik Pandya’s backup. Venkatesh Iyer may be developed into a utility all-rounder.”

“I’d really want to see someone like Venkatesh Iyer bat out of his position. India have five openers in their roster, with Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma being the front-runners. So Venkatesh Iyer must fit in, but not at the top of the list “He added another remark.

VVS Laxman also discussed the Indian team, saying that rewarding players who have performed well in the IPL is the proper thing to do.

“I believe they have rewarded the players who have performed well in the IPL, which is the correct course of action given that the World Cup will be held in Australia in a year’s time. I believe it is a terrific group, not just in terms of batting but also in terms of quick bowling. There’s Harshal Patel, who excels in the death overs… and Avesh Khan, who possesses lightning-quick pace “On Star Sports, Laxman stated.
