Vaani Kapoor will play the lead role. Mardaani celebrity Gopi Puthran’s grim criminal drama series.
Vaani Kapoor, who wowed audiences in Abhishek Kapoor’s Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, has signed up for her next movie. Pinkvilla has learned that the actress will now star in Yash Raj Films’ unnamed gritty criminal thriller series, directed by Mardaani 2’s Gopi Puthran. This multi-season programme is part of YRF’s on-demand lineup.
“Vaani has been seeking for assignments where she can provide a memorable performance. While she will continue to prioritise theatricals, she will not rule out fantastic digital initiatives. The show is a gritty, edge-of-your-seat criminal thriller that YRF believes is a wonderful concept and intends to stage on a grand scale. Gopi made it obvious that he intended to cast someone who was new to the OTT scene. He wanted a strong actor who could hold her own, and has long admired Vaani’s work in her films,” a person close to the project said.
“So, when he decided to produce the programme, he spoke to Vaani to check her purpose,” the insider continues. Vaani, to his joy, seized at the excellent idea and said yes right away to partner with Gopi. Vaani hopes to collaborate with the best ideas in order to improve as a performer with each excursion. So this was a no-brainer for her.” Vaani Kapoor has already began preparing for her role, and the production will begin shortly.
Meanwhile, pre-production on the film has already begun, and the show will be formally announced by YRF soon. Other significant roles are currently being cast.
Mardaani 2, directed by Gopi Puthran, was released in 2019 and starred Rani Mukerji and Vishal Jethwa.
