Two American visitors to the Taj Mahal exhibit signs of covid, and samples were sent for genome sequencing, according to officials.
A top health official has reported that two American tourists who visited the Taj Mahal on January 10 had tested positive for COVID-19.
The two American visitors were part of a party travelling from Varanasi and were sleeping at an Agra hotel, according to Dr. Arun Srivastava, the city’s chief medical officer (CMO), on Thursday.
He claimed that samples were taken from every member of the group, but only the two Americans had Covid positive results.
They travelled from Varanasi to Agra on January 9 and went to the Taj Mahal the following day. The health department of Agra’s team collected samples from tourists at the Taj Mahal’s east gate, according to Dr. Srivastava, who spoke to PTI.
He said that samples from the visitors had been transferred to Lucknow for genome sequencing.
The health department of Jaipur has been informed, according to Dr. Srivastava, as the tour group is on its way to Rajasthan next.
Two Agra residents have so far tested positive for Covid, one from the USA and one who had just returned from China.
One Argentinean traveller who visited the Taj Mahal during the final week of December tested positive. The details he provided were eventually shown to be false, but the district’s health officers were unable to locate him.
