The AD-1 missile from India has a range of 5000 kilometres and can intercept and destroy enemy ballistic missiles.

With the successful test firing of the AD-1 missile launched for the first time on Wednesday off the coast of Odisha, India has gained a significant capability boost and can now destroy incoming enemy ballistic missiles fired at it from 5,000 km away.

The missile AD-1, which can kill both ballistic missiles and low-flying fighter aircraft, is a component of the Ballistic Missile Defense shield’s phase 2 development programme.

“We first developed the ability to intercept incoming missiles at a distance of 2,000 miles. We can now intercept any missile with a 5,000 km strike range thanks to yesterday’s test “Samir Kamat, the head of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), spoke to ANI.

“We now have the ability to intercept adversaries who aim from a distance. The improvement in our capabilities to defend against ballistic missiles “He spoke

Once detected by own systems, the DRDO chairman added, “it will be possible to track it, our defence system can be activated and missile can be intercepted.”

It operates in the low exo-atmospheric zone but is primarily endo-atmospheric. Our development for the high exoatmospheric zone is ongoing.

“We should be able to demonstrate our capability by 2025, using both the high exo-atmospheric missile and the AD-1 missile. We are 100% certain that we can complete this by 2025 “said Kamat.

The government will decide where the technology will be deployed after it has been created.

Long-range tracking radars are a component of the complete BMD system that can track missile launches from warships, submarines, land-based systems, and aerial vehicles.
