Tech Mahindra, a leading provider of digital transformation, consulting and business re-engineering services and solutions, marking the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam – noted scientist and former Indian President, today conducted a tree plantation drive in association with Sai Prasanna Foundation at Tech Mahindra’s Chennai office. The green drive was aimed at creating awareness around issues related to climate change and environment conservation.
As part of the initiative, Tech Mahindra’s associates, 200 students from SMART Centers by Tech Mahindra Foundation and members of the Sai Prasanna Foundation, came together to enhance and improve the green cover within the premises as well as neighbouring community areas by planting saplings and distributing seed balls best suited to the local climate and soil.
Addressing associates at the launch of the initiative, Vivekanandan, better known as Vivek, Indian film actor, comedian, Television personality, playback singer and versatile social activist, said, “I’m glad to have visited Tech Mahindra Chennai campus for the tree planting initiative. Before I visited the campus, I thought that I am just visiting an IT company but I was totally mesmerized and awestruck after taking a tour of the lush green campus with huge trees. With pride and joy I hereby state that Tech Mahindra Chennai is the only IT Company that gives importance to maintain the ecosystem in the campus by planting trees and maintaining a plastic free environment. Only knew that Mahindra was a Jeep company but I stand corrected after visiting the campus that Tech Mahindra is huge measures for sustainability initiatives such as 3-4-3 initiatives.”
He used the famous Tamil quote “Tech Mahindra ku periya O podu!! For which the associates and students reacted by a huge serenading shout of O podu”.
Commenting on the green initiative, Harshvendra Soin, Global Chief People Officer, Tech Mahindra, said, “At Tech Mahindra, we believe that the key to a prosperous future lies in being sustainable and being environmentally responsible today. As a ‘Company with a Purpose’, we are committed in building a safe and sustainable environment for our associates. Through earnest efforts and collaborations like Project Green Kalam, we believe that we can play an effective role in making the world a better place.”
In line with Tech Mahindra’s 3-4-3 strategy to effectively manage the sustainability agenda – 3 trees, 4 P which is Paidal, Pedal, Public transport and Pool vehicle, 3 hours of ISR (Individual Social responsibility), the initiative emphasized on the role played by an individual in creating ‘an environment that needs no protection’.
Registration booths were set up within the campus to provide the associates with seeds/saplings of their choice. Tracking mechanisms were also made to gather periodic updates from the volunteers and assist them with any further information related to the initiative or the sapling.
