Tamil Nadu has elaborate procedures in place for the 2022 presidential elections.
CHENNAI: A lot of preparations have been done to ensure a peaceful presidential election on Monday at the Secretariat. MLAs may use their right to vote in a voting place from 10 am to 5 pm.
Following approval from the Indian Election Commission, two Lok Sabha members from the State, M Selvaraj of Nagapattinam and A Ganeshamurthi of Erode, would cast their ballots in Chennai (ECI).
Sources added that special preparations have been made for persons with COVID to exercise their franchise because Chief Minister MK Stalin, Minister for Milk and Dairy Development SM Nasar, and Deputy Leader of the Opposition O Panneerselvam are now hospitalised as a result of COVID-19. According to reports, PPE kits will be provided to both election officials and voters.
After polling, the ballot boxes will be sealed and sent to the ECI for votes to be counted on July 21. Draupadi Murumu is contesting on behalf of the NDA, while Yashwanth Sinha is contesting on behalf of the opposition. In Tamil Nadu, the ruling DMK-led alliance has extended its support to Sinha, while the AIADMK-led alliance is backing Murumu.
