Sushant Singh Rajput was Mukesh Chhabra’s first pick for the role of Dil Bechara, and he recalls, “After then, I have never seen the film.”
On Chetan Bhagat’s podcast, casting director Mukesh Chhabra recently talked about his first film, Dil Bechara, which starred Sushant Singh Rajput. Mukesh declared that he has made Sushant his top option for the part.
After Sushant Singh Rajput passed away in 2020, the film Dil Bechara, which was based on the book The Fault in Our Stars, was released. Despite having the best staff working on the movie, Mukesh admitted he has never seen Dil Bechara again. Following that, he claimed, “I never saw Dil Bechara and I never even listened to Dil Bechara songs.”
“As a first-time filmmaker, you got the best director of photography who shot Dangal, the best actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the best music director AR Rahman, the best production designer, the best editor, and Farah Khan to do your song,” he said. What more do you want as a beginning filmmaker?
When asked about the film’s casting, Mukesh remarked that he had always known he would star in his first movie alongside Sushnat. I was certain I wanted to work with Sushant when I said, “Mere hamesha dimag mein tha ki pehli image Sushant ke sath hi banaunga.” He said, “Connection, bond,” when Chetan questioned why. There existed a bond between Sushant and Rajkummar Rao, as stated in the song Hamesha. I was aware that it would either be Rajkummar Rao or Sushant. Mukesh claimed that after seeing the movie, he was positive that Sushant would be the perfect choice for the role.
When he told Sushant that this was his first film, he said, “Bhai, kar raha hun,” the actor revealed. When Mukesh said, “I don’t know what to talk about Dil bechara honestly,” he looked to be still attempting to sort through his feelings regarding the movie.
Since Dil Bechara, Mukesh Chhabra has not directed another movie. Sushant’s final release was this one. In 2020, the actor committed suicide.
