Suresh Raina has said that he wants to win the IPL 2021 for ‘Thala’

The friendship between former Team India greats MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina, affectionately known as ‘Thala’ and ‘Chinna Thala,’ has lasted more than a decade and a half. Raina, in fact, announced his retirement from international cricket on the same day as the World Cup-winning skipper, namely August 15, 2020 (India’s 73rd Independence Day).

Suresh Raina, the reigning Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, has stated his desire to win the IPL 2021.

We’ve played a lot of matches for both India and CSK. He has played over 200 matches for CSK, and I have also played about 200 matches for CSK.So, I believe it’s just a feeling, and on top of that, we have that respect for each other, and I have learnt a lot from him, and he is like a big brother to me,’ Suresh Raina remarked on the Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected,’ while talking with sports announcer Jatin Sapru.

We’ve played a lot of matches, won a lot of tournaments, and lost a lot of finals, but I believe the belief and respect we have for each other is tremendous, and that’s what everyone enjoys about it, he said.

I believe that when we travel to Dubai, we will have a camp and, perhaps, we will be able to win it for him once more (MS Dhoni).I think the way we were playing this year, we had some extra confidence from his captaincy, and he was enjoying each other’s success, he was giving a lot of freedom to all the players, and having Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, (Dwayne) Bravo, and Ruturaj in the side, as well as Faf du Plessis, we really had that momentum. “Hopefully, when we travel to Dubai, we can do it again for MS,” the 2011 World Cup winner further added.

Prior to its extended delay on May 4, Chennai made a fantastic start to their IPL 2021 campaign, winning five of their seven games. In virtually all of their victories, the defending champs crushed their opponents. Their two defeats came at the hands of the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians. With 10 points, the MS Dhoni-led team finished second in the IPL 2021 points standings behind Delhi. It would be fascinating to watch if CSK can retain their form with the postponement of the IPL 2021 scenario when the competition starts in September, as they aim for a fourth IPL title.
