A visit to Chennai for many travellers means enjoying mouth-watering Chettinad food, taking a dip or two in Marina Beach waters, buying Kanchipuram silk sarees and gold jewellery, and exploring the city’s heritage structures. Surely, there are plenty of reasons to visit Tamil Nadu’s capital city, let’s check some of them here:

1.The second longest beach in the world (Marina Beach) – The breezy beach of Chennai is one of the best places to be. It is an excellent place to hang out with friends or jog or enjoy the spicy raw mangoes. It gives satisfaction of experiencing the sea- the calmness you feel and simultaneously the chaos of the large crowd present at any time of the day. It is also one of the busiest beach.

2. Detroit of India – It is also known as the Detroit of India because of its automobile industry, which produces more than 40% of the auto parts and motor vehicles in India. A significant portion of India’s automobile industry is based in and around Chennai, thus earning it the nickname “Detroit of India,” and Chennai is the largest electronic hardware exporter in India.

3. Chennai in first World War – While World War I is seen as largely bypassing the Indian mainland, there is a lasting memory that Chennai (then Madras) bears when the war came to its shores. On September 22, 1914, exactly one month after what is now celebrated as Madras Day, the city became the only Indian to face an attack by Germany and its allies–Hungary, Austria, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.

4.Kathipara Flyover – it’s the most important cloverleaf flyover in Asia. Kathipara Junction is a critical road junction in Chennai, India. It is situated at Alandur (St. Thomas Mount), south of Guindy, at the intersection of the Grand Southern highway (NH 45), Inner bypass, Anna Salai, and thus the Poonamallee route.The flyover has been built at this junction, making travel less cumbersome.

5. If you are a big fan of Cricket, Chennai has the roots which you would definitely connect to. People in Chennai love cricket. Cricket is that the famous sport in Chennai and was started as a results of the inspiration of the Madras Cricket Club in 1846. The oldest cricket stadium in India is located in Chennai, known as Chepauk M.A. Chidambaram stadium.

6. Chennai Super Kings(CSK) – Also, one of our favorite IPL teams, The Chennai Super Kings, belongs from here. The CSK fan club is called the Whistle Podu Army. The team song has become a Chennai anthem.

7. Chennai is one among the fastest-growing cities within the world and therefore the only Indian city to be rated within the “Forbes-Top 10 Fastest-Growing Cities in the World”.

8. Chennaiyin FC – It means Chennai’s football club. – They are a professional football team. They have won the ISL season in 2017-18. This franchise is owned by Vita Dani, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

9. Temples – Some of the best temples in Chennai are the Arulmigu Kapaleeswarar Temple, the Kapaleeshwarar Temple, and the Ashtalakshmi Temple. The temples in Chennai is famous for its beautiful artwork at the top of the structure. Temples in Chennai are an epitome of beauty.

10.Rajnikanth –It is unanimous that Chennai is famous for Rajnikanth. The actor has worked in over 1000 films, and almost all of his movies have been box office hits. His movies witness a fully packed theatre, owing to his beloved fans who love to watch a first-day first-show. There are food items also named after this iconic star.

11. Film Lovers – The people of Chennai are very passionate about films. They are all big movie buffs. They love to watch all new releases first-day first-show and throng the theatres to watch and cheer for their favorite actors. It has the second largest number of theatres after Mumbai.

12. Carnatic Music – All over the city, at concert halls, you will find Carnatic music performances by eminent artists being held. It is a system of music commonly related to southern India. Carnatic music is so melodious and has a soothing effect on the ear. It is a must-experience for anyone traveling to Chennai.

13. Unique Culture – The people of Chennai are very proud of their culture. They are fiercely protective of their local language, Tamil, and many would instead prefer communicating in Tamil than in any other language. Even the relevant holidays and festivals celebrated in Chennai are different from those observed in the rest of India. The culture is certainly what Chennai is legendary for.

14. Monuments – Chennai is home to historic landmarks and buildings. These include the forts, museums and architectural monuments that are present throughout the city. Tourists visiting Chennai have many places to explore and learn a lot about the rich history and heritage of this city.

15. Iconic Figures – Chennai is a city that was and is home to some iconic Indian people. Whether it’s within the field of science, sports, entertainment or music, the town has given the country true maestros altogether these fields.R. Ashwin, V. Anand, A.R Rahman, Kamal Haasan, Ilayaraja, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Mani Ratnam are a few illustrious and noteworthy figures from Chennai.
