Sunny Leone’s Tamil film represented a “risk.” Exclusive: Oh My Ghost, Wants To “Break the Mould People Created” for Her
After Sunny Leone appeared on Bigg Boss’ fifth season in 2011, she became well-known. Even though she didn’t bring the trophy home, it gave her access to opportunities she had never had before. She made her Bollywood debut with actor and director Pooja Bhatt’s Jism 2 a year later (2012). Over the years, she continued to star in a variety of Hindi movies, including Jackpot (2013), Ragini MMS 2 (2014), and Ek Paheli Leela (2015), among others. She also performed a number of chart-topping dance songs, including Laila Main Laila, Pink Lips from Hate Story 2, and Baby Doll from Ragini MMS 2. (Raees; 2017).
Over the course of her ten-year acting career, Sunny had cameo appearances in Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu films. Currently, Sunny is working to carve out a name for herself in South cinema. She starred in the Telugu movie Ginna (2022) last year, and most recently, Oh My Ghost, which is in Tamil, had her as the main. Despite the film’s lacklustre opening weekend, Sunny is glad for the new chapter that has opened in her career. For those who are unfamiliar, she portrays Queen Mayasena in Oh My Ghost in addition to a ghost. The plot follows the adventures of a woman and her pals as they learn an unexpected fact about her grandfather’s bequest.
She says, “2023 couldn’t have started on a nicer note for me. I’m working hard to break the image I was known for and build a new one. Actors thrive on the affection audiences bestow upon us. I took a chance by doing a scary comedy, and I’m glad it worked out. I want to defy the expectations that others have for me. There is a deliberate attempt to select various initiatives.
“I want to provide them a wide variety with the episodes and movies I pick up because our audience has changed significantly over the last two years,” adds Sunny, who says that wants to be known for her flexibility as an artist. Ginna was a bulky performer. Anamika was a meticulous doer. The same goes with my upcoming Shero, an intense action thriller. This one is a funny, terrifying thrill journey. As a result of my achievement, I will now be more willing to take on challenges and make riskier decisions.
Together with television actor Arjun Bijlani, Sunny is currently co-hosting the reality dating series Splitsvilla X4. She just shot for a project with director Anurag Kashyap, the specifics of which are being kept under wraps, and she will be seen in a number of other South projects.
