Rotary Club of Madras dedicates Technical Training Centre to the differently-abled

Chennai 22nd June 2022: The Rotary Club of Madras (RCM) dedicated a Technical Training Centre set up exclusively to the differently-abled, on Wednesday at its Boy’s Town campus near Gummipundi. Ravindra Sannareddy, MD, Sri City inaugurated the project which was established in collaboration with Worth Trust, in the presence of the RCM’s President Mohan Raman, Rtn., J. Sridhar, District Governor, Rtn., Ranjit Pratap, and project Chairman Rtn Ravi Sundaresan.

Welcoming the chief guest and other distinguished members, Mohan Raman briefly explained the efforts that were put during the past 4 to 5 years for realising the project. Ravi Sannareddy applaud the RCM and the worth Trust for realising the project with the noble goal of providing a two-year Certificate training for differently-abled boys in various trades. Offering his full support and cooperation, he assured job opportunities to the trainees in Sri City after successful completion of the course.

Past District Governors and Presidents of RCM spoke on the occasion and shared their happiness on the occasion.

Located in the verdant Gummidipundi area, housed in a 4500 square feet building constructed in a 2.55 acres plot, the Technical Training Centre along with all requisite machinery, tools, other fixed and movable infrastructure, and ten residential units for the stay of students, was established at an investment of Rs 5.5 crore.

 

The Centre will begin with a two-year Turner and Machinist residential course, a one year Sewing & Cutting Technology course and a Smart Phone Service course for six months. All courses will be certified by the National Council for Vocational Training under the Directorate of General Training, New Delhi.

 

 

 

 

The RCM, operating under the Rotary International, has a distinguished 93-year history of social service with projects that address the needs of the community and cover a diverse range of interventions like health and hygiene, education, skill development, disaster management and sustainable environmental initiatives. RCM has partnered with the eminent Worth Trust, renowned for over 50 years for their work in rehabilitation, to launch this livelihood initiative that aims to educate, train and empower the differently abled who are speech and hearing impaired and orthopedically challenged.
