Rajinikanth’s Jailer will be released in theatres in 2023.
Rajinikanth, the Tamil cinema industry’s greatest celebrity, has been actively engaging with emerging artists in recent years. The experienced actor, widely renowned for his unrivalled energy and contagious personality onscreen, is eager to reinvent and break the mould of his popularity and step outside of his comfort zone. However, very few directors of the younger age have effectively handled Rajinikanth’s overpowering star qualities and brought out his finest. That is why Jailer, his next Rajinikanth-starrer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is keenly anticipated by both the superstar’s followers and moviegoers.
For his upcoming project, the celebrity will collaborate with Nelson Dilipkumar, the renowned filmmaker best known for the hit flicks Kolamavu Kokila, Doctor, and Beast. After the publication of his much anticipated first look poster, expectations for Jailer, which is billed as a comedic thriller, are skyrocketing. From the first glimpse, it is clear that Rajinikanth, who portrays the titular character, will emerge in the film in a never-before-seen form. So yet, though, nothing has been disclosed about the renowned actor’s role.
Nelson’s first two films, Kolamavu Kokila starring Nayanthara and Doctor starring Sivakarthikeyan, were well received by audiences for their unique dark humour. The great filmmaker has a fantastic yet wacky sense of humour, which is very well represented in the settings he constructed for both the comedic thriller. Nelson also succeeded in breaking clichés connected with the principal performers of both Kolamavu Kokila and Doctor, Nayanthara and Sivakarthiyekan, by portraying them in radically different avatars.
This is one of the things raising anticipation for Jailer, which is also being billed as a comedic thriller. Audiences who grew up watching Rajinikanth films are well aware of the superstar’s incredible comedic timing. However, the seasoned actor’s talent has been underutilised in his latest flicks. As a result, moviegoers are expecting Nelson to bring back that forgotten facet of the superstar’s cinematic character in Jailer.
It has been revealed that Sivakarthikeyan, the acclaimed young actor, would feature in Jailer as a cameo. In May of this year, the actor shot his scenes for the film in Chennai. According to unsubstantiated speculations, Sivakarthikeyan would play the younger version of superstar Rajinikanth in the film. The outstanding actor is set to perform in a special musical number as well as a few parts in Nelson’s directorial debut.
The songs and original score for Jailer are being written by Anirudh Ravichander, a very skilled young musician. Thus, the film reintroduces the hugely popular Anirudh-Nelson pairing for the fourth time in a row, following Kolamavu Kokila, Doctor, and Beast. It’s also Anirudh’s third reunion with Rajinikanth, following Petta and Darbar.
Jailer, which was written by director Nelson Dilipkumar himself, stars some of Indian cinema’s most well-known actors. Rajinikanth is reunited with his Padayappa co-star Ramya Krishnan for the much-anticipated film after a 20-year hiatus. According to unsubstantiated rumours, the veteran actress would play Rajinikanth’s wife in the film.
The major antagonist in Jailer is played by Shiva Rajkumar, a Kannada film hero. As a result, the film marks the acclaimed actor’s debut in the Tamil cinema business, as well as his first onscreen cooperation with Rajinikanth. The young actress Priyanka Arul Mohan is slated to make a cameo appearance in the Nelson-directed film, which also stars Yogi Babu, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, and others in supporting parts. Sun Pictures’ Jailer is scheduled to be released in theatres in mid-2023.
