The film’s production was halted in December after four members of the crew tested positive for COVID, and the senior actor was admitted to Hyderabad for a few days to have his blood pressure levels monitored. He was discharged from the hospital on December 27. The senior actor, who was scheduled to enter politics while announcing his intentions to join a political party, declared two days before the major announcement that he would not be doing so, citing his health, the current pandemic, and his inability to dedicate the time needed for the endeavor due to his busy schedule this year. Despite making the stunning announcement of not getting into politics, he released a statement on Twitter. “I regret to inform you that I am unable to seek a political career. I’m the only one who has seen the agony of announcing this decision. “I will do everything in my power to assist the public,” said the announcement.

In the meantime, the actor was recently honored with the coveted Dada Saheb Phalke trophy. The good news was shared on Twitter by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, who praised him for his contribution to elevating the status of Indian cinema. While Rajinikanth expressed his appreciation to the government for the honor in a thank-you letter, he specifically mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. The 70-year-old also thanked those who helped him along the way, including his brother, a bus driver, and former co-star Kamal Haasan.
