‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is nominated for six Asian Film Awards.
Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ was released in theatres on September 30 and was one of the blockbusters in 2022, grossing more than Rs 500 crores at the box office. The film has now been nominated for the 16th Asian Film Awards. The Asian Film Awards announced on Twitter on January 6 that the award presentation will be held on March 12 in Hong Kong.
Mani Ratnam’s production company has revealed that ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has been nominated for six awards. “Thrilled that #PS1 has been nominated for six awards at the 16th Asian Film Awards @busanfilmfest for Best Movie, Best Music @arrahman, Best Editing @sreekar prasad, Best Production Design #ThotaTharani, Best Cinematography @dop ravivarman, and Best Costume Design @ekalakhani,” they wrote in their tweet.
Along with ‘Ponniyin Selvan,’ Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ was nominated in two categories, and only these two Indian films were nominated this year at the Asian Academy Awards.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a historical epic drama based on Kalki’s novel of the same name, starring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai. The sequel, titled ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2,’ is planned to hit theatres on April 28, 2023.
