Panneerselvam met with BJP leaders on the sidelines of the Gujarat oath ceremony.
OPS and his son, O Ravindran, travelled to Gujarat to see Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s inauguration. On the sidelines of the event, he also spoke with top BJP leaders.
O Panneerselvam (OPS), who travelled to Gujarat on Monday to observe chief minister Bhupendra Patel’s oath ceremony, met top BJP leaders on the sidelines of the event, but his supporters stated that OPS did not discuss Tamil Nadu politics or his ongoing squabble with Edapaddi Palaniswami, or EPS.
The AIADMK’s temporary general secretary, EPS, was invited but did not attend the oath ceremony. Instead, he emailed Bhupendra Patel. “Although I am delighted to attend the swearing-in ceremony, I am unable to do so due to my previous engagements on December 12, 2022,” EPS wrote in his letter.
“I give my best wishes, and I am confident that Gujarat would thrive during your tenure as chief minister,” EPS added.
OPS was present, as was his son and MP O Ravindran, who was also dismissed from the AIADMK during the party’s general council meeting in June.
OPS and his son were seen speaking with BJP chairman JP Nadda and national secretary BL Santosh in video clips and images. In some photos, OPS was also wearing a saffron scarf over his neck.
“We were greeted with saffron shawls. We didn’t even talk about the political situation. “All we spoke about was the party’s triumph in Gujarat,” claimed a supporter of OPS, the sacked AIADMK coordinator who is fighting to restore his place in the party. He has also petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the general council’s decision to kick him and his supporters out of the party.
The OPS faction suffered a defeat last week when Centre parliamentary minister Prahlad Joshi recognised EPS as interim general secretary and summoned him to an all-party meeting in Delhi with chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin.
Prahlad Joshi is said to have opposed OPS’s exclusion from the meeting.
“OPS remarked that because the Election Commission and Supreme Court have not recognised EPS as the AIADMK’s sole leader, how could they invite only him (EPS),” said a veteran AIADMK leader, adding that until OPS receives a response, they will be able to get a sense of the BJP’s thinking.
