MS Dhoni gets off to a winning start as Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs.
The Chennai Super Kings won their third game of the IPL 2022 season on Sunday, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs at the MCA stadium in Pune. The setback was SRH’s fourth of the season, but they remain in fourth place.
SRH won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the decision backfired as openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway annihilated SRH’s bowling attack. Gaikwad, in particular, was in a punishing mood, smacking four sixes on his way to another half-century. Both openers put up a record 182-run partnership for the first wicket when Gaikwad was removed by T Natarajan, leaving him one run short of the three-figure milestone. In the penultimate over, Umran Malik caught MS Dhoni for 8 runs, giving the SRH bowler his second wicket of the match. CSK ended up with 202 runs.
Chasing 203 runs to win, openers Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson got off to a good start, piling up 58 runs for the first wicket before Sharma was bowled for 38 runs by Mukesh Choudhary. Rahul Tripathi was dismissed for a first-ball duck by the CSK bowler. Kane Williamson was out for 47 runs. While SRH continued to lose wickets at one end, Nicholas Pooran held things together at the other. The West Indian struck an unbeaten 64 runs off 33 balls, but the effort was in vain as SRH was bowled out for 189 runs and six wickets.
