Maamanithan, starring Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Seenu Ramasamy, was originally set to be released on May 6 but has now been rescheduled.
Vijay Sethupathi’s next film with filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy, which was set to be released on May 6, has been rescheduled. The film’s creators have once again postponed the release, citing Vijay Sethupathi’s film schedule as the reason for the move. The film has been rescheduled for June 24th.
The creators turned to Twitter to announce the film’s postponement, writing, “Mamanithan’s release date has been pushed back from May 20th to June 24th due to continued @VijaySethuOfflmovie releases. Mamanithan is deserving of at least 400 theatres in Tamil Nadu. Please accept our heartfelt apologies on behalf of all theatre owners and distributors.
Maamanithan is aimed at a family audience and seeks to depict the problems of the average middle-class family guy. In the film, Vijay Sethupathi will portray an auto driver, while Gayathri Shankar will play his wife. The film is the director’s fourth collaboration with the actor and Vijay’s fifth with Gayathrie.
The film, which was supposed to be finished in early 2019, has been postponed for a variety of reasons, including the pandemic. Maamanithan has already received a clean U certificate from the Censor Board. The Tamil drama will star the late KPAC Lalitha and Guru Somasundaram and is produced by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his YSR Productions company. Yuvan and his father Ilaiyaraaja collaborated on the soundtrack for this film.
Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi is starring with Katrina Kaif and Sanjay Kapoor in Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas. Other projects for the actor include Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s forthcoming web series, which will also feature Shahid Kapoor. In addition, he is looking forward to the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama Vikram. The much-anticipated film, starring Kamal Haasan, is set to be released on March 31 this year.
