Janhvi Kapoor claims that since Karan Johar launched her, she is now “easier to detest.”

Janhvi Kapoor acknowledged that being introduced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions gave her “an easy target for criticism,” but she insisted that she does not regret it.

In Dhadak, the official Hindi remake of the Marathi movie Sairat, Janhvi Kapoor received her big break. Karan Johar and his company, Dharma Productions, produced the movie. Since then, Janhvi has participated in a few other movies directed by Karan, which has prompted some people to call her privileged. Janhvi addressed this privilege in a recent interview and claimed that being supported by Karan and Dharma made her a target for abuse.

One of India’s largest film production companies is Dharma Productions. It was founded more than 40 years ago by the late Yash Johar, and Karan Johar, his son, currently oversees it. Dharma was the producer of Janhvi’s first two movies, Gunjan Saxena and Dhadak. Being the daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor, many claimed that Janhvi had it easy because not many newcomers receive so many films from such a large production company.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Life, Janhvi was asked if she thought her relationship with Dharma made her an easy target for trolls. I guess it’s because Dharma is such a well-known production company, she retorted. Whatever individuals may say, I now realise that the level of audience attention and curiosity that Dharma arouses may be unmatched. Yes, it has increased the pressure somewhat and turned me into an easy target.

The 25-year-old did, however, add that she does not regret beginning her career with the production company and under Karan Johar’s guidance. “But what Dharma and Karan have given me makes me feel so incredibly blessed and privileged, therefore I will never, ever regret it. It goes beyond that. Knowing Karan and the values of that production company, you can tell that he values making creative choices and adhering to his personal creative vision above everything else. And I respect you so much. It has given me love, support, and advice from a maker like Karan more than anything else,” she continued.

Mili, Janhvi’s most recent film, marked her first association with her father, the filmmaker Boney Kapoor. This month’s film premiered earlier. She is now working on the two movies, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi and Bawal.
