IPL 2021: Kane Williamson’s Match-Winning Knocks Against DC.
Kane Williamson, the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, took over as full-time captain in 2018 owing to the unavailability of David Warner and has since delivered numerous match-winning innings for the club. He will captain the Hyderabad team for the 28th time in the Indian Premier League when they face the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium (IPL).
As SRH prepares to meet DC for the second time in IPL 2021, and for the first time in the second leg in UAE, let’s look back at some of the 31-year-game-winning old’s innings against DC.
SRH was sent in to bat first by DC on September 29, 2020, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and openers David Warner and Johnny Bairstow struck 45 off 33 balls and 53 off 48 balls, respectively, to give the side a strong start. However, as the openers returned to the pavilion, no. 3 batsman Manish Pandey was bowled for three runs after only five deliveries. Coming in to bat at no. 4, skipper Williamson scored 45 runs off 26 balls, including five fours, to help SRH to a solid total of 162 runs. Rashid Khan removed the trio of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyash Iyer, and Rishabh Pant to help SRH bowlers preserve the score well.SRH won the match by 15 runs and secured two important points thanks to the bowlers’ performance and Williamson’s quick-fire innings.
On May 10, 2018, during Williamson’s first season as SRH’s full-time captain, DC produced a total of 187 runs in the first innings, with wicket-keeper batsman Pant smashing a phenomenal century of 128 runs off 63 balls. In the second innings, SRH starter Alex Hales was removed for 14 runs while chasing the target. SRH, on the other hand, successfully chased down the goal with nine wickets in hand and seven balls to go in the innings, thanks to Williamson coming in at no. 3 and hitting 83* individual runs. Williamson and opener Shikhar Dhawan combined for a 176-run partnership.
On April 29, 2017, SRH hosted DC in the 2017 IPL at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Williamson scored an innings of 89 runs off 51 balls in his opening match of the season, putting up a partnership of 136 runs with Dhawan, and posting a total of 191 runs on the board. Following the batsmen’s outstanding performance, the SRH bowlers successfully protected the total, and SRH won the match by 15 runs.
