India successfully flight tests advanced missile, Torpedo System:
The Indian Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) tested the supersonic missile on September 5th 2020. It was launched from Wheeler Island, Odisha.
SMART, Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo. The Supersonic Missile is assisted by the release of lightweight Anti-Submarine Torpedo System for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations.
The Chairman of DRDO, Dr Satheesh Reddy said that this supersonic missile will be major technological progress in anti-submarine warfare. He further mentioned the objectives of the mission, which were missile flight up to a range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, the release of torpedo and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM). All the objectives were met perfectly.
Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO for the achievement.

The test parameters will help to increase the range of torpedoes, it will also enhance the Indian Navy’s capabilities to engage with enemy submarines from a greater distance.
The event was monitored by the tracking stations and telemetry stations along the coast of Odisha. DRDO laboratories like DRDL, RCI Hyderabad, ADRDE Agra, NSTL Visakhapatnam, have developed the technologies required for SMART.
