On Sunday morning, hundreds of Chennai citizens assembled for “Rally Against Child Abuse,” which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (Crimes against Women and Children) H Jayalakshmi. The event was organized by social activist and politician Apsara Reddy.
H Jayalakshmi said that children are the future, and their department under the guidance of commissioner AK Viswanathan sir are ensuring that they have sensitised their team to emotionally and also physically handle crimes against children. She also added that they have a zero tolerance towards crimes against children.
Apsara Reddy has worked on child abuse cases as a social activist and stressed on the need to consider child abuse as a human rights issue. She said that the society must stand by the family of the victim and not just offer sympathy. She also added that boys also face the brunt of a barbaric mindset and doctors have a special role in handling child abuse victims. Several members of Lions Club, FICCI FLO and transgender organization were a part of the rally. Various corporate companies were also a part of the rally.
