MARUPAKKAM and Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Chennai is jointly organizing the 8th Chennai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2020 from 19-23rd February. The film festival is held in partnership with several colleges, including Ethiraj College, Women’s Christian Collège, Loyola College and other organizations like Panuval Book Store, Discovery Book Palace and Periyar self-respect media in Chennai.
Over 50 Indian and International documentaries and short films will be screened at multiple venues from 10 am to 8 pm. The films will be screened under eight sections such as Indian films, International films, Contemporary German Films, Ranhan Palit Retrospective, Andres Veiel Retrospective, Filmmaker in Focus – Rajula Shah, Homage – Manjira Datta and Tamil films by students from Asian College of Journalism.
Films from various countries including Sweden, France, Algeria, Malta, Syria and others will be screen. Filmmakers such as Hasna Thapliyal, Anirban Dutta, Sandeep Ravidranath, and Rajula Shah and other will take part in the post screening discussion.
A special series called Short Export 2019 will highlight German short films’ artistic style and variety. The films will be about searching, identity and finding. Documentaries directed by directors Anna-Sophia Richard, Markus Weinberg and Sebastian Heinzel will also be screened.
The Tamil film section has been curated SBP Bhaskaran, Filmmaker and Film Society Activist while Amudhan R.P, Filmmaker and Festival Director has curated the Indian & International Film sections.
