AR Rahman's massive response

AR Rahman’s massive response to Amit Shah’s divisive Hindi imposition remark.

Amit Shah, head of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee, informed members that the Union Cabinet’s agenda was now drafted in Hindi 70% of the time. He went on to say that when inhabitants of different states interact in different languages, they should do so in Hindi. Hindi should be recognized as a substitute for English rather than for local languages.

Oscar-winning musician A R Rahman wrote about “Beloved Tamil” on social media on Friday, amid heated protests from Tamil political parties to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments. Rahman posted an artwork of “Thamizhanangu” from “Goddess Tamil,” a term from Manonmaniam Sundaram Pillai’s and M. S. Viswanathan’s Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, or the Tamil national anthem. He incorporated a phrase from Bharathidasan’s “Thamiliyakkam,” a book of Tamil poems produced in the twentieth century, that read: “Beloved Tamil is the foundation of our life.”

Following the success of this video on social media, a video of him addressing Tamil as the linking language is also gaining popularity.AR Rahman responded to a reporter’s question about Amit Shah’s controversial comments by saying, “Tamil is the linking language.” This isn’t Rahman’s first remark on the language question. When there were proposals to make a three-language strategy mandatory for all states in June 2019, Rahman tweeted: “AUTONOMOUS” meaning “in the Cambridge English Dictionary,” with a web link to the dictionary’s definition. His comment sparked the internationally trending hashtag “#autonomousTamilNadu.”

Similarly, when the Centre decided to repeal the clause requiring obligatory Hindi instruction in non-Hindi-speaking states, Rahman praised Tamil Nadu’s two-language policy, tweeting, “Good choice.” Tamil Nadu does not need to study Hindi. The draft has been revised. ”
