9 people in UP have a FIR filed against them for being forced into conversion

In New Delhi: According to the news agency ANI on Saturday, a FIR has been filed against nine people for allegedly coercing a small number of individuals in Meerut to become Christians and intimidating them into staying away from the police.

The accused allegedly assisted them during the lockdown and urged them to visit a church, according to the FIR filed under the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.

The state Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh enacted the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill, 2021 by voice vote in February 2021.

According to Section 3, 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Unlawful Conversion Prohibition Act, Chhabili alias Shiva, Binwa, Anil, Sardar, Nikku, Basant, Prema, Titli, and Reena are the nine people identified in the FIR. According to PTI, the police have not yet made an arrest. The state Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh enacted the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill, 2021 by voice vote in February 2021.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan, the Brahmapuri police station has been requested to look into a complaint alleging religious conversions.

Based on the findings of the preliminary investigation, a case was brought against nine individuals, three of whom were women, on Friday.There is an ongoing investigation, “An officer was quoted by PTI as stating.

Several Mangatapuram Colony residents filed the complaint. The complainants claim that during COVID-19, some residents helped the local needy by giving them food and money. The police claimed that the accuser allegedly pushed these individuals to become Christians after that.

“Furthermore, the accused are accused of removing Hindu deity and goddess icons from the homes of Mangatapuram Colony inhabitants.. When someone protests or complains about the occurrence to them, the accused returns home and makes death threats “PTI stated quoting the grievance.

Although the number of conversions is not specified, a local BJP official named Deepak Sharma asserted that more than 100 residents of Mangatapuram Colony had supposedly converted to Christianity.

“This has been happening for three years. People were offered rations and money to become Christians during the COVID-19 period. Currently, threats are made against other persons who refuse to convert, “Singh claimed.
